Manage a team of photo editors to provide visually engaging coverage for breaking news coverage as well as special projects on The Daily Beast. Use strong leadership skills to motivate a four member photo team and get top quality and high output from the photo team as they produce still photography as a standalone feature in slide shows. While working directly with the Executive Editor to shape not only story ideas but also creating a visual aesthetic that has become iconic to The Daily Beast brand. In charge of a $400k annual photo budget. Work close with the design team to oversea the production of editor illustrations that accompany stories, ensure that the imagery and tone meet the highest standards. Meet with photographers to ensure a variety of story ideas appear on the page while scouting for fresh new talent that will help to achieve a diversity and growth in the visual repertoire of The Daily Beast. 

Managing Web Photo Editor, Newsweek & The Daily Beast     2012-2013
Led a team of photo editors to provide compelling images for Pitched gallery, interactive, social engagement and story ideas to set goals for the news cycle. Managed the day-to-day workflow and assigned work to a small team of photo editors. Created a distinct visual look and feel for all of the content on the site. Coordinated schedules and managed coverage during breaking news. Work with development team to continue to improve user experience and interaction with photography and slideshows. Initiated new relationships with photographers and agencies in an effort to create branded look and feel across the website and related Tumblr blog. 

Photo Producer, The New York Times     2007-2012
Worked with various sections of The New York Times to provide strong visual content in a creative manner on Obtain photos for breaking news events to provide compelling visual elements for the homepage.  Select and color correct images for use on the site.   Create slide shows and additional multimedia content to enriched user experience. Record and edit audio for audio slide shows.  Additionally, spent two days each week on the culture desk assigning photographers as well as working with page designers to determine the layout of pages. Work with section producers to create strong visual content that accurately reflected the look and feel of the various sections of the newspaper. 

Senior Photo Editor, ABC News     2000-2007
Oversaw the daily activities of the photo department, at ABC, as well as managed long-term project planning. Worked closely with editorial department, ad sales and various network programs to maximize partnership opportunities while creating original content, to drive site traffic. Worked closely with the art director to interview and select new employees for the department. Tracked monthly spending and adhered to budget constraints. Maintained regular contact with legal department and standards and practices department to ensure proper usage of images. Cultivated and maintained relationships with various wire services and photo agencies to negotiate competitive rates and establish new business opportunities. Hired freelance photographers and negotiated the licensing of images from newspapers to obtain original content for the site.

Assistant Photo Editor, Associated Press     1998 – 2000
Worked with photographers to request images for breaking news stories and to accompany AP feature stories. Edited photographs and translated captions from Spanish to English for use on the AP wire. Transmitted images via FTP for use by Associated Press member organizations. Compiled, edited and fact-checked “International Photos of the Century,” a special package that contained the best images from international newspapers. Prepared advance obituary slide shows for dignitaries and celebrities.
